Sunday, January 23, 2005 The week has passed yet again, but this time with a long weekend. I was hoping that I can be more productive and finished my work. But alas, I gave myself a break too, and didn't really accomplish anything.
In the past, i used to think that caning was something that was used as a last resort. But it happened too often to my form class, from offences which ranges from smoking, truancy, rude to teachers and bullying classmates. Every other day, I would receive offence forms in my letter rack which I was supposed to file in their confidential files. Usually, I would ask for leniency for my students who have committed an offence. But for the first time, I didn't because i felt that that particular student didn't deserve it. He was reallly rude and still thought that he was right. I wanted to speak to the Principal about the matter after I've passed all the offence records to her, but she was too busy. I felt so sorry for Mr Goh and decided to pursue the matter. I told Mr Kong that this boy deserved a more severe punishment for all the things that he had done. In the end, he was caned two strokes instead of one. I always think students deserve a second chance for the wrongs that they have committed. But I have seen for myself how students would take those second chances for granted. Do you call them unrepentful or incorrigible? Or were they too impulsive and did things without considering the consequences? One of my students slapped his classmates over some small matters. But this is not the first time that such a thing happpened, so the victim decided to pursue the matter. Moreover, this matter took place in full view of their Maths teacher. After the incident, he was really sorry about it and apologised to the victim. He was worried of the punishment because he might be caned for that. He was in tears and my heart really sank when i saw students, especially boys cry. I felt so sorry for him and I really wanted to give him a second chance. He promised me that he wouldn't do such a thing again. But i think maybe it's time he should be punished for it. Don't know what was the outcome of the incident as I had to leave early for my course on that day. I saw QH and CS on that day too in the general office. They were serving their DCs and were helping Ms Gopal. As usual, Qh was looking away, hoping that I didn't see him. But I did anyway. It's too much of a coincidence i think. Everytime when he is punished, I would get to know it or witness it for myself. I told him this: is it fated that everytime when he's punished, I would know about it or it could be that he is too "suai" everytime. If it's fated, then it could that he didn't keep his promise that he would behave himself and be a good boy. Haha, God is watching... Hopefully by now, Amos would be feeling better. But i know it's not easy to overcome the grief that comes along with the death of loved ones. He said this, "Either I'm suppressing my emotions or I'm still in the denial stage." Gosh, it's a short sentence, but it sums up his feelings and has stirred up the emotions in me. I've witnessed for myself how a person can be such a coward and such a jerk. I felt so sorry for my friend who has such a sickening and irresponsible boyfriend. He can be such a wonderful and caring boyfriend, but when something happens, he doesn't have the courage to take responsibility. Instead, he chose to be a bastard, who hides himself in his turtle shell, so much for the promises that he gave her in the past, it's all crap. This kind of jerk will suffer the retribution that comes along with his irresponsible action. Despite the anger that I've vented here, it has made me so skeptical about relationship. It makes me think twice about committing myself to a relationship in future. Can we still count on guys in times of difficulties? Wouldn't it be better to stay single so that we can avoid getting ourselves into such awkward situation and redundant heartache? 0 Comments:Sunday, January 16, 2005 Just came back from Amos' dad's wake...I was quite distressed and emotional about it. I was reminded about my grandma's death because that was the last wake that I've attended and the memories were still fresh in my mind. Moreover, Amos is an only child and now that his dad has passed away, I'm sure that's a lot of things for him to see to.
I get to know Amos when I was doing my contract teaching at CCKSS and he was doing relief teaching there. After that, we seldom have the chance to meet up and our means of communication would be ICQ. We would share the problems we faced at work and encourage each other . I would complain about teaching and he would complain about his work at MOM. He is one guy I would feel comfortable pouring my woes to. We always wanted to arrange to meet for dinner or drink, but that meeting never gets to materialise due to our busy schedules. Never would I imagine that the next time i see him would be at his father's wake. That's really ironic. I always know it's never easy to get over the death of dear ones. But Amos has managed to put up a very brave front. But beneath that brave front, I could sense the sadness in him when he said that the worst part was not last night at the wake but the cremation would be the worst part that he has to go through. I remember I was so devasted when my grandma was cremated that tears just rolled down from my eyes. I felt really sad seeing him and I wish I could do more for him besides contributing money as a form of goodwill. But there's only so much that I can do for him. I'll pray hard to God so that he could find peace amidst the sorrow that he is facing now. On the way home and till now when I'm penning my blog, I was thinking of how he's going to overcome the grief in him. I guess time will probably be able to heal the pain. Amos, be strong. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Two weeks have passed. I've grown to like some of the students in my form class. Some of them can be quite mischievous and they don't really mean any harm. They are just trying to be cheeky or funny. I've realised if I could emphatise with them, they will make the effort to behave in class and tell you the problems they had in class. I'm glad I've given myself another chance to know them better and not to stereotype them according to the impressions that I had of them last year. The only problematic student that I have is _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. He can be outrightly defiant, rude and irritating. He likes to commment about so much things that's totally irrelevant. I know I'm been bad here, but one thing I'm very sure is that he will never learn his lesson through the soft approach. I guess he really needs to learn his lesson through the hard approach, and that would be caning. He was already caned last week for smoking. This time, he better makes sure he behaves himself because I don't think he deserves any chance at all because he has been taking everything for granted. 0 Comments:Sunday, January 09, 2005 Finally had the chance to blog...I didn't really have the time to blog during the weekdays, and here I am with my updates, despite having work to clear now. I was in the midst of doing my work and decided to update my blog and take a break from the mandate typing.
School has started and I've survived the first week. It was a busy week. There are tons of things to do, lots of administrative things to do, especially with my new form class. It's really a different experience this year, with a totally different form class, a more challenging one actually. But they are not as bad as what I've expected. Although they are more chatty and take a longer time to get things done, they are quite lovable after all. They will complain when work are given to them, but with a bit of reminders and nagging, they will still do it. As a result of this, i've become more long-winded although it's not in my nature =) It's a different experience seeing students from my ex-form class. Some of the girls would wait outside the staff room during recess, and I could use the time to catch up with them. On the first day of school, surprisingly, it was the boys who turned up outside the staff room. Some how, maybe I'm too sensitive, the way they talked to me was not the same anymore. It felt so distant and Sean looked really shy when he saw me. I could still remember Justin exclaiming, "Eeee, Ms Ang rebonded her hair!" Haha, do I look really bad with a new image? That's the result of the depression that I faced when I learnt that i was not following my form class and I am the form teacher of 3T1. Hence, I decided to "revamp" my hair and hopefully my "depression" will be healed naturally. Haha, it never happened actually, the only good thing is perhaps my head feels lighter with shorter hair, and the hair looks softer with a change of the hair colour. Some teachers still expressed astonishment when they learnt that 2E3 is no longer my form class. It's from the teachers that I've learnt that "my boys" as they labelled Qin Hong, Justin and Chin Seng, had got into trouble with the school rule. I was really worried for them and hoped for the best and not the worst. But things are okay now and they could get away with a warning and writing a reflection for the wrong that they had done. Thank God, they need not be caned. Come to think of it, Qin Hong looked so apologetic with his head bowed so low when he saw me in the general office, while they were looking for Mr Kong. Hai...this boy ar...will miss the cute actions that he displayed. Talking about school rules...it's only the first week of school and 2 boys from 3T1 were already caned by Mr Kong. That's his first caning for the new year, I guess. Those two boys actually have the audacity to smoke in school during recess, were they really so desperate for a puff of smoke? I was talking to Tan Huong the other day while waiting for the rest of the Sec 2 El teachers to turn up before we could start the meeting, and I realised that my workload this year is really heavy. I do not really think about it initially, cos my whole mind was only focused on 3T1. He used to complain that his was worst after comparing with other teachers, but after hearing my workload, he promised he won't complain anymore...haha. In the past, although I had 2 EL classes, they were both the same level, so i only need to prepare the lesson once and repeat myself to the two classes. But this year, I have 2 El classes too, but they are of different levels. One is Sec 2 express and the other is Sec 1 express, so in this case, everything is doubled. Hai... will try my best to be more productive this year. I am also the level rep for Sec 2E so there's quite a bit of coordination work to do with the rest of the EL teachers teaching 2E. In the past, i only need to set 1 grammar test, but this time round, i had to set 2 tests, one for Sec 1E and one for sec 2E...gosh, hope I won't freak out =) I'll pray hard and hopefully, God will be there to give his moral support so that I will stay sane, despite having 2 EL classes of 2 different levels and 3 CPA classes, Sec 1T1, 2T1 and 3T1, and 2e5 IPW, not forgetting 3T1 as my form class, It's "haunting" me forever..haha Time to resume my work... |
