Sunday, May 22, 2005 Couldn't sleep at this time so I'm here to update my blog. My insomnia is probably due to the late nights that I've been keeping to mark those exam papers. I could still remember that gruesome period, at this time last week, I'm already awake marking those papers like a robot. Then I would start to get grouchy and complain about the slightest thing, such as those beansprout handwriting that i couldn't stand at all. That's when I needed to open my eyes real wide to examine the words. Since those handwritings helped me to make my small eyes bigger without having to go through any operation, I would return them the favour by being more thorough with my marking and pick up more grammatical mistakes from their work and penalise them...haha, sounds evil ar?! But what to do? Teachers need an avenue to release their pent-up fustrations...so students "suffer". But if the students' work are good, there's no way we can penalise them too, I'm a fair teacher. Haha. Oh, it's been a long time since I last marked Qh's work and I could still remember his super neat handwriting. I was marking the summary section for paper 2 and his exam script was the last in the class and the neatest too, so that neat work summed up my marking and created the false illusions that 2E3's scripts are all neat and easy to mark, but is it really the case? Haha. If only there were more of such scripts around, it would really shorten the marking time. Qh, you will earn big bucks if you start a class on writing neatly. Then teachers will recommend students to you to attend your compulsary course. When they graduate, they will receive a degree that certified that they have completed all the necessary modules and mastered the skills of writing neatly. That degree will be the main criteria for entry into secondary schools other than their PSLE results. Then teachers would be so thankful to you and you can redeem your sins for your super high hair and at the same time contribute to the society. I would highly recommend Leon and he will be your first student. If you could change his handwriting, i will kowtow to you and there'll be no students that you can't handle. He'll be your first tried and tested, certified with ISO 1908 certification role model. Can you imagine my suffering when i was marking the script before qh's, Leon's script was really the ultimate man. I remember i used to tell Leon, he should study hard and do triple science in JC, so that he can study medicine in university and become a doctor, because he really has the making of a doctor and hence, he shouldn't waste the talent that he has always been displaying faithfully in all his work. I remember doctors would always scribble at the patient's record card with a special kind of handwriting that nobody has except doctors and nobody can understand except the doctor and the nurse. Sometimes, i'm always amazed how nurses can read what the doctors write. Wouldn't they prepare the wrong medicine due to the illegible handwriting? Or do they have a secret code to decode those words? Nurses would make good teachers too because they could already 'subdue' such handwriting, what difficulty would Leon's handwriting pose to them? I wanted to update more, but the sleeping bug has attacked me and will conquer me soon, so I better end here so that my computer wouldn't be left unattended till morning. Watch this space for more updates...haha, so crappy!!! Must be due to the sleeping virus...Please excuse it in the meantime and don't curse at me. 0 Comments:Sunday, May 01, 2005 Really glad that tomorrow is a public holiday. No need to teach and have more time to stay at home to complete my marking, so that I can collate the CA marks for my classes. English has a lot of components for CA marks and it's really tedious to calculate the CA marks; compre, compo, vocab test, reading worksheets. spelling, show and tell, portfolio, grammar test, common test....giving me a real headache. Would very much prefer Maths or Science where 4 tests can make up the CA marks. Really save a lot of inconveniences... The vocab test marks are not out here cos the teacher aide is on course and she's not available to mark the OMS with the OMR machine. Hopefully she can be back on Tuesday...so that the marks can be ready soon. Got my first pile of marking...second pile to be precise cos the first was VE paper, so the second pile was English P1. I have more papers to mark this year. Last year, I only need to mark one-third of the 5 classes for English, that's approximately 67 scripts. But this year, as I'm teaching 2 levels: sec 1 and 2, hence I have about 96 scripts to mark...sigh... Here's the breakdown of the 96 scripts: Sec 1E2 Index No 12-39 Sec 1E3 Index No 1-22 Sec 2E2 Index No 11-38 Sec 2E3 Index No 1-19 In addition to the Paper 1 scripts that I have to mark, I'll be marking the same number for Paper 2. Then I have to mark Sec 1 and Sec 3 CPA, both Papers 1 and 2. CPA papers are so much easier to mark. I can finish marking 1 class within 2 hours, that is if i'm marking like a marking machine. But English papers will take eons to mark. Really hate this period of the semester...students are busy studying for the exams while teachers are busy marking the exam papers, basically the whole school is suffering. Actually, come to think of it, I can't really complain much. My subject combination is not that bad. Imagine if i'm an English and History teacher like Christina or Patsy, the marking is really like hell...tons of scripts to mark, really gross man. Could somebody quickly invent a marking machine? The whole teaching profession will kowtow to you for your greatest invention of the lifetime. I heard from my form class that some boys were actually bullying their classmates. The worst I had heard was that A will take off his socks and hit B's face with it. Then A will pour a full bottle of 1.5 litres of water on B, on the pretext that he was doing it accidentally. How can such an incorrigible student exist in this world? But the weirdest thing is: I did not hear the complaints from B himself but I heard it from his classmates. I'm amazed at B's tolerance. Since I know about the matter, I'm not going to let A get away with it. I'll make sure that he'll be punished for it. This is really too much...too sickening. Enough of the complaints...time to get back to the thing that's first on my hatelist....MARKING. |
